I would want to write something that would be of interest to everyone so the next time i will open my blog, i would see my visitors counter having 3 digits on it. Since i just add it up, just 3 digit number of visitors is all i ever wanted to have. Maybe for now.
Ok. Does it make sense? Nah. I dunno. Actually, i have nothing to share right now but a bunch of routine stuffs i did at the laboratory this whole afternoon. Routine, shall i say, because i have been doing the same thing for 3 months now. Plating. Isolating. Reisolatating. Decontaminating. Ok, did i say you should repeat reading from plating? Haha. At first, i was enjoying it, but now, i think after graduation, i don't wanna be stuck in that routine.
Why wasn't i not thinking about it when i choose this major? Well, because somehow, it is really interesting. Studying microorganisms, knowing them, liking them and then loving them. Then, having a stagnant relationship with the major... then worse, getting bored at it.
Suddenly, my thoughts starting to make a logic out of things. Haha. As usual, the very overrated topic that everyone is blabbing about: love. Hmm... Microbiology and love, how are they related?
Well, during isolation of different microorganisms, let's say... bacteria, they will grow in your media. Different colonies, different kinds, different appearance. Like love, you will have to meet different people. Then, among these people, there will be this someone who will make your heart skip a beat, make you catch your breath, make your palm sweat (hmm...my favorite line from UGLY BETTY!). so that feeling will be like a single colony of bacteria that will grow into a big one. It will then occupy the whole petri dish until such time that it will reach its maximum growth. Then, you are getting used to it that you can almost forget to reisolate it. It is like forgetting how to take care of it. That is why it will be contaminated. Here, contaminants is like other people who go into the scene. Occupying your role. Dominating the whole part. Then you are just there, you can't do anything about it. You can reisolate it, but you will rather not do it since everything will be such a waste of time...
Now, did i make any sense??

The Smoking Effect
Reds. Light. Menthol. Many names... Many kinds but all boiled down into one word: CIGARETTES. So far no studies show that smoking is beneficial to man (i haven't seen any, i guess). From those i have read, they say that cigarette is composed of poisonous ingredients. But still i cannot figure out why such thing is invented in the first place.
Most people I know who smoke have this common reasons:
- for fun
- it is cool
- they can't do anything
- smoking helps them forget their hunger (for those who are on diet)
- peer pressure
- it is addictive
- they want to know the smoke tricks
When they are smoking, most of them just look at the benefits and the satisfaction they get from it. What they don't know is that:
- their lungs deflate when they smoke
- they have a high risk of getting lung cancer, emphysema and other respiratory kind of diseases
- not only that, they can also have heart diseases
- or worse, they won't die but they will suffer the effects of it for a very long time.
This is a picture of a smoker's lungs (url: http://prdupl02.ynet.co.il/ForumFiles/11257767.JPG):

See the difference? Healthy lungs is on the left side and the smoker's lungs is on the right.
Smoking not only affects the smokers but also the people around them. They said the people who are affected by the secondhand have higher risk of getting cancer than those who smoke.
So for those who smoke, don't be selfish! It is not your health that is more affected but those who are living a healthy life.

It worked!
I just got out of a fever. Then, I had an exam in this subject (which i prefer not to name). I crammed. I tried to study but I don't have enough notes (because i don't practice note-taking). All i had was this about-an-inch readings which i didn't manage to study because i did my ritual [the crying-coz-pressure-filled-my-system thing]. After the ritual, i studied, didn't somehow finish all of it because i fell asleep. Then the following morning, i realized that i was 1-hour late for my 1-hour exam. Darn it! So i spent my time thinking of what to do... and i came up with this equation:
Then i went to see a doctor and got an excuse letter with a note of "acute tonsilitis". I know induced my sickness (which is a very bad thing to do) but i got no choice and i don't wish to fail in that subject.
ok.. i am now ready accept negative criticisms.. :((

Til Death Do Love Birds Part
December 31, 2008 (morning) - we woke up and found blood shed all over the tiles. Feathers were found everywhere. Early morning cheerful chirping were almost not heard. Instead, little voices from our two love bird cages caught our attention. Almost dying, obviously in pain - these were what flashed our sights. Grievous, dreadful - a tearful sight was seen. Truly, no one would wish to see a scene as cruel as that. One in each pair of our new two pairs of lovebirds were attacked by rats (who would have thought that those pests will attack our birds). We applied first aid to the injured birds while waiting for my tito, who is a vet, to arrive. About 9 o'clock, i assisted Tito Jun in the operation. The left wing of the Gray one was fractured and the connective nerves were cut. There was no chance to suture the wing since the injury was very ferocious. The chance of its survival is 80-20. 80 for death, 20 for survival. The only way to prolong its life was by amputating its wing. While cutting the left wing which is barely connected to a few tissues, I can almost feel the pain that the gray bird was feeling.
After the surgery, we applied medicine to the wound to avoid infection and bleeding. The second injured bird (the green with blue one) also had a fractured wing. We just applied wing brace and medicine on the wound. However, the chance of its survival was also not assured.
December 31, 2008 (afternoon) - as predicted, the gray one past away. It was found lying on the cage, eyes open. The painful part was not really the death of the bird because we already expected it to happen. It was the part when its pair, the yellow one, was jumping and chirping all over the cage... maybe it was asking for help... asking for us to try reviving his partner.
Maybe I am just being melodramatic, but from what i know, love birds don't exist alone. They need their pairs in order to survive. I really took pity for it... exaggerated but I really could not look at it...could not even bury the bird I first had surgery on.
In my whole 2008, that was the most tragic part that happened. Now, who am i to blame in that incident, of course, the RATS! I really hate every single species of rats in the world. No, i hate all rodents in the world - every single species in their family.Even those who look like one.
